About the Engineering Scholarship
Established to honor the remarkable contributions of Albert S. Richardson, Jr., a Canton native and esteemed engineer, the scholarship provides a one-year, $5,000 award to a graduating high school senior accepted into an accredited undergraduate engineering program. Moreover, this scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years, culminating in a total potential award of $20,000. The selection process emphasizes candidates’ leadership potential and their commitment to making meaningful contributions to the field of engineering.
Celebrating Excellence: The 2024 Recipients
In 2024, the scholarship committee faced the delightful challenge of selecting from eleven outstanding applicants. Ultimately, two exceptional students were honored:
- Luke Buxton – An East Canton High School graduate, Luke is embarking on his engineering journey at The University of Cincinnati.
- Amelia Richardson – From Glen Oak High School, Amelia will pursue her engineering studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Both recipients showcased remarkable leadership qualities, academic excellence, and a dedication to civic engagement, mirroring the values upheld by Albert S. Richardson, Jr. This dual award underscores the scholarship’s commitment to fostering talent and ambition within the Canton community.

About Albert S. Richardson, Jr.
Albert S. Richardson, Jr. was a distinguished engineer renowned for his expertise in galloping and vibration control. As an executive officer of the MIT Aeroelastic Laboratory and founder of AR Products and Research Consulting Associates, he was awarded over 30 patents and authored more than 80 technical papers. His legacy of innovation and leadership continues to inspire and support aspiring engineers through this scholarship.
